Landing Page
A web page that a visitor clicks through to from a banner ad or search results listing.

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI)
A technique in information retreival used to process large natural language documents, such as websites.

Lead
A person or company who has expressed some sort of interest in your products or services.

Link
Text or graphics that, when clicked on, take the Internet user to another web page location. Links are expressed as URLs.

Link Building
Requesting links from webmasters of other sites.

Link Farm
A site that features links in no particular order which are totally unrelated to each other.

Link Maximization
The method of getting popular sites in your industry to link to your website.

Link Popularity
The number of websites that link to your site.

Link Text
A clickable link comprised of text. Also known as Anchor Text or Anchor Link.

Log File
Accesses to a website logged by the web server. Data usually includes date and time, filename accessed, user IP address, referring web page, browser software and version, cookie data, etc.

Manual Submitting
Refers to the practice of submitting websites to search engines and directories by a person, as opposed to using an software's automated process.

Market Research
Preliminary and ongoing investigation into a particular product or service's target market with the primary aim of better understanding purchase motivators.

Marketing Agency
A company that provides marketing services to other companies.

Meta Description
A tag hidden in the HTML source used to describe a page's content; visible only to search engine spiders.

Meta Keywords
A tag hidden in the head section of HTML source and used to list keywords and phrases found in a page's content.

Meta Search
Search results derived from several sources and consolidated into a single SERP.

Meta Tags
Information associated with a web page and placed in the HTML head section.

Mirror Sites
An exact duplicate of another website.

Mod_rewrite
A module in Apache servers that can be used to rewrite requested URLs on the fly; provides a flexible and powerful URL manipulation mechanism.

Mouseover
The various effects achieved while hovering the mouse cursor over images, etc. - an example is seeing alternate text.

MSN
Usually refers to the Microsoft Network and it's search engine.
