Navigation Bar (nav bar)
A website's navigation icons, usually arranged in a row down the left hand side or along the top.

The system used to access a website's pages - navigation enabled by clickable hyperlinks configured to text, images, etc.

Noframes Tag
Alternative non-framed HTML on a frameset page for very old, non-frames capable web browsers and search engine spiders. Placing good keyword-rich text in noframes tags is a good idea if your site is framed, or in Flash.

Natural Search Results
Search result listings which appear below the sponsored ads, also known as Organic Listings.

NOFOLLOW
An attribute used in a hyperlink to instruct search engines not to follow the link, or to pass PageRank. Also refers to a Meta Tag that instructs search engines not to follow links found on a page.

Off-Page Factors
Actions that can alter search engine positions - occurring externally from other websites; sometimes within your control, sometimes not.

Online Marketing
Any action that markets products and services on the Internet.

On-Page Factors
Methods and actions that can help determine search engine ranking and which are conducted internally within your website pages. Modifications can include site copy, page titles, navigational structure, links, etc.

On-Theme
Refers to website content specific to a particular topic.

OOP (Over Optimization Penalty)
A theory that applies if one targets only 1 keyword or phrase and the search engines view the linking efforts to be spam.

OpenRank (Open Source PageRank)
A suggestion to make a web-wide ranking system as opposed to Google's Pagerank.

Optimization
Any strategy that involves improving the quality and/or relevance of a website's properties; can include download speed, SEO, and image manipulation.

Opt-In
A user joining a subscription to a newsletter or some other service.

Organic Listing
A natural result listing returned by a search engine.

Outbound Link (off-site link)
Links that direct off-site to another website.
